Welcome to the Huckleberry Hounds Agility Club website! We're located in the far northwestern corner of Montana, in Sanders County--which has no stoplights, but does have lots of deer, elk, huckleberries, and one very fine dog agility club! Browse our site and learn more about us and what we have to offer you and your dog!
The Huckleberry Hounds Agility Club of Sanders County, Montana, was formed in 2009 by a handful of dog agility enthusiasts. Some of us had extensive experience, and most of us had none...but we all wanted to have fun with our dogs!
Since then, our club has grown to about 30 members....not bad for an area where the biggest town boasts only 2,100 people!
We meet weekly for practice sessions at a beautiful indoor horse arena. We hold classes for all levels of expertise. We bring in well known clinicians at least once a year for training seminars. We hold our own competitions to supplement the NADAC and AKC trials that are often few and far between, up here in our corner of the Big Sky State.
Our members also serve the community by offering canine first aid classes, dog safety presentations, obedience classes, and 4-H dog training classes. And once a year, at our HuckFest Fun Match, we're the stars of the world famous Huckleberry Festival held annually in Trout Creek, Montana.
We're always looking for new members, and ways to make dog agility even more fun for them. Contact us for more info! Email sandersagility_gmail.com
We start new classes, year 'round, whenever there is a demand. Our Beginning Agility Class meets once a week for 8 weeks, generally on Thursday evenings. Graduates from that class may choose to go on to an Intermediate Class, also on Thursday evenings.
We limit the size of our Beginning Agility Class to six students so everyone gets individual attention.
Our fees are very low to make the sport as affordable as possible. A one-year membership in the club is required of all students. We also expect all members to take part in club activties and lend a hand when necessary.
In addition to group classes, the club meets on most Sunday afternoons at the arena for an organized but casual competition of some kind. We also integrate a 30-minute lesson into each afternoon session, spotlighting one skill each week .
Our primary trainer is Jan Manning, who has been active in the sport since 1998. Jan owned and operated her own dog training facility for many years (Manning Dog Training) in Yakima, Washington, before retiring to Sanders County,Montana. Her very first agility dogs were Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, on which she earned advanced titles in AKC agility and obedience. She now runs an American Staffordshire Terrier who is working on a PACH (Preferred Agility Champion) AKC title, and is training a young Lab who will make his agility debut in 2012.
